Business Unit Manager, Andy Tomlins, said: For many years, there has been a shortage of skilled highway surfacing operatives in our sector and this new scheme gives us the tools to upskill some of our existing workforce and to bring in new apprentices to fill the gap."

The apprentices all hold permanent roles within Eurovia Surfacing and will continue to develop their skillsets as well as the quality of projects in their local communities. The successful scheme went on to win the Local Sourcing category at the Leading Lights Awards in December. Following the win, Technical Director Paul Kidd said: "We are extremely proud of our apprentices, and what better way to celebrate but to have Cameron and Anton pick up the award on behalf of Eurovia Surfacing and their fellow apprentices."

Cameron: "Before this I was working on building sites, just labouring. I've enjoyed it from the start, my favourite bit of the job is operating the plant and learning how it works properly. There's a lot of skilled workers who are willing to teach you their skills so you can progress to one day a foreman or a supervisor."
